AROUND THE HORN | Sunday's other games

AMERICAN LEAGUE
Devil Rays 7, Yankees 6
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Aubrey Huff homered twice and drove in three runs, leading the Tampa Bay Devil Rays over the New York Yankees. Victor Zambrano (5-4) beat the defending AL champions for the third time this season, ending New York's six-game winning streak. He limited the Yankees to a pair of singles by Hideki Matsui until Enrique Wilson singled with one out in the seventh to give the Yankees runners at first and second.
Rangers 4, Blue Jays 2
TORONTO -- Kenny Rogers became the first eight-game winner in the major leagues despite walking seven, and the Texas Rangers beat the Toronto Blue Jays to stop a four-game losing streak. Rogers (8-2) won his fourth straight start, allowing one run -- it was unearned -- and six hits in 5 1-3 innings. The walks were one shy of his career high. Rogers, off to the best start of his major league career, has won six times following Texas losses.
Orioles 7, Tigers 3
DETROIT -- Ugueth Urbina walked Brian Roberts with the bases-loaded in the ninth-inning to break a tie, and the Baltimore Orioles completed a three-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers with a victory. The Orioles trailed 2-1 entering the ninth against Urbina (1-2), who had not allowed a run at home this season. But the Detroit closer retired only one of the seven batters he faced, blowing his first save in 13 chances since Aug. 31 for the Florida Marlins.
Twins 8, Royals 3
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Alex Prieto hit his first major league homer and Corey Koskie drove in three runs, leading the Minnesota Twins over the Kansas City Royals. Kyle Lohse (2-4) allowed three runs and nine hits in five-plus innings for his first victory in eight starts. Lohse's only other victory this year was against the Royals on April 17. Prieto, a rookie infielder, hit a two-run homer in the fourth off Jimmy Gobble (2-3) following an RBI single by Henry Blanco.
White Sox 11, Angels 2
CHICAGO -- Willie Harris had four hits, Jose Valentin homered and Ross Gload drove in three runs to lead the Chicago White Sox to a win over the Anaheim Angels. Scoring in double figures for the eighth time this season, the White Sox chased Anaheim starter John Lackey (3-6) after just three innings -- matching the shortest outing of his career. He gave up nine hits and eight runs. Lackey also lasted just three innings against the Yankees in April, 2003.
Red Sox 9, Mariners 7, 12 innings
BOSTON -- David McCarty homered in the 12th inning after Andy Dominique's first major league hit helped rescue the Red Sox following Keith Foulke's blown save, and the Boston Red Sox beat the Seattle Mariners. Curt Schilling had a perfect game for 5 2-3 innings but wound up with a no-decision after Raul Ibanez hit a three-run homer off Foulke in a six-run eighth that made it 7-5.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Expos 6, Reds 2
MONTREAL -- Moved up in the batting order, Tomo Ohka beat the Cincinnati Reds with his arm, not his bat. Ohka became the first major league pitcher in more than five years to bat higher than ninth in the starting lineup and went hitless in two at-bats, but he worked 6 2-3 strong innings to lead the Montreal Expos to a win. With his team having lost eight of nine, Expos manager Frank Robinson batted Ohka eighth in the lineup "to try something different."
Phillies 4, Braves 1
PHILADELPHIA -- Eric Milton pitched seven strong innings in his longest outing of the season and Jim Thome hit his 12th home run of the season to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a win over the Atlanta Braves. Milton (6-1) gave up one run on three hits, striking out a season-high eight batters and walking three. Coming off his first loss with Philadelphia in his last start, Milton retired 10 straight to start the game.
Astros 7, Cardinals 1
HOUSTON -- Mike Lamb, Jeff Bagwell and Lance Berkman hit two-run homers, leading the Houston Astros over the St. Louis Cardinals. Albert Pujols hit his major league-leading 15th homer for St. Louis, a ninth-inning drive that gave him six homers in his last eight games. Tim Redding (3-3) allowed four hits over 7 1-3 shutout innings for Houston, which had lost its previous five games against St. Louis.
Padres 5, Brewers 2
MILWAUKEE -- Brian Giles had a two-run triple and Phil Nevin homered to help Ismael Valdez win for the first time in over a month, leading the San Diego Padres over the Milwaukee Brewers. Valdez (4-2) allowed nine hits and two runs in seven innings as he won for the first time since April 27 against Montreal. He had two losses and three no-decisions since winning his first three starts.
Marlins 8, Mets 6
MIAMI -- Miguel Cabrera homered and drove in four runs, and Mike Lowell hit a tiebreaking double in the seventh inning that lifted the Florida Marlins over the New York Mets. The Marlins finished a three-game sweep and won for the ninth time in 11 games, but may have lost right-hander Josh Beckett, who left after 2 2-3 innings with a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand.
Giants 3, Rockies 1
SAN FRANCISCO -- Jason Schmidt provided the perfect sendoff for San Francisco's longest road trip in 15 years, taking a shutout into the ninth inning to lead the Giants to their ninth straight win. Michael Tucker hit a two-run homer and Pedro Feliz went 3-for-3 with an RBI for the Giants, who have a winning record for the first time since April 14. After sweeping the Rockies and Diamondbacks in a six-game homestand, the Giants start a 14-game trip Monday in Arizona.
