WARREN -- Detectives will begin questioning students at Warren G. Harding High School concerning the death of Deana Jenkins, wife of the girls varsity basketball head coach.
Police Chief John Mandopoulos declined to say specifically why students would be questioned.
"There are a bunch of rumors floating around out there and we need to put the rumors to rest," Mandopoulos said. "The detectives are attempting to do that."
The chief noted that police are working closely with Chris Becker, an assistant Trumbull County prosecutor. He declined to say if any arrests would be made soon. The chief stressed that police have no suspects at this time.
Deana Jenkins' husband, David, has worked for two seasons as the girls varsity basketball head coach.
Police said they have talked to numerous family members but have not yet spoken to David.
Found dead in home
Deana Jenkins was found dead inside her Clearwater Street Northwest home May 20. Preliminary autopsy reports state she was strangled.
Police said the Trumbull County Coroner's office will not release a ruling on the death until the toxicology reports are returned from the lab. Those reports should be returned in about a month, officials said.
Jenkins' body was found around 8:30 p.m. May 20 in a closet of the home she shared with David and their two children.
Detectives noted that they waited until after Jenkins' funeral Wednesday to continue interviewing family members.
Employees at the Trumbull County Child Support Enforcement Agency, where Deana Jenkins worked, wore hot pink carnations Wednesday in memory of their co-worker. Hot pink was Jenkins' favorite color, employees said.
Christina Campbell, agency director, said Jenkins was at work earlier May 20 and didn't indicate she had any problems.
Jenkins worked for 10 years at the agency as an enforcement specialist.
