NOTEBOOK | From Eastwood Field

Doubles record: Butler established a Horizon Tournament record in Thursday night's 15-12 victory over UW-Milwaukee. In that game, the Bulldogs had nine doubles and 13 extra-base hits. The nine doubles shattered the record of seven set in 1984 by Detroit and equaled by Notre Dame in 1993.
One short: Youngstown State came within one error of matching the tournament record for errors in a game. The Penguins had six in their 7-2 victory over Cleveland State. The tournament record is seven, set by Evansville.
Perfect: The past three champions -- UIC in 2003 and UW-Milwaukee in 2002 and 2001 -- went 4-0 in the tournament to win the title. In 11 of 23 times in the tournament, one team has gone through the championships undefeated.
Near perfect: The start of Friday's tournament opener between YSU and Cleveland State was pushed back a half-hour because of the early-morning rain, giving the grounds crew time to get the field playable. It was the first time in three days that any game in the tournament has been delayed by weather.
Lengthy efforts: Both of Youngstown State's starting pitchers in the tournament, Justin Thomas and Eric Shaffer, went eight innings in picking up the two victories. Oddly enough, both of their opponents, Craig Costello of Butler and Matt Kaltenbach of Cleveland State, went eight and nine innings, respectively, in the losses. No other starting pitcher in the tournament has gone more than seven innings.
