NATIONAL LEAGUE Long ball gives Bucs two wins

Craig Wilson and Rob Mackowiak belted homers to give the Bucs a sweep.
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Craig Wilson hit a game-winning home run in the 10th inning Friday night to give the Pittsburgh Pirates a 5-4 victory and doubleheader sweep of the Chicago Cubs.
In the first game, Rob Mackowiak hit his first career grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, giving the Pirates a 9-5 win.
Mackowiak, who became a father for the first time earlier in the day, also hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning of the nightcap to tie it at 4. He entered as a defensive replacement for center fielder Ruben Mateo in the seventh, and hit the first pitch he saw from LaTroy Hawkins in the ninth to tie it at 4.
Wilson's homer off Francis Beltran, his 11th of the season, gave the Pirates their first doubleheader sweep since June 18, 2003, against Montreal.
Bucs at .500
Mike Gonzalez (2-0) pitched a perfect 10th inning for the Pirates, who are 22-22 -- the latest in a season that they've been at .500 since September 1999.
Beltran (1-1) threw just one pitch, and took the loss. He had allowed only one run over his previous 91/3 innings.
Corey Patterson hit a two-run homer and Jose Macias drove in two runs in the nightcap for the Cubs, who have lost four straight and six of their last eight.
Patterson's sixth homer of the season also scored Derrek Lee, who walked to lead off the fourth inning against starter Oliver Perez.
David Kelton doubled and scored on Macias' groundout in the third, and Macias added an RBI single in the ninth for the Cubs.
Chicago starter Glendon Rusch allowed six hits in his third start of the season, striking out four and walking two in 62/3 innings. He was lifted after walking Mackowiak and Jason Kendall with two outs in the seventh.
In relief
Kyle Farnsworth relieved Rusch and allowed an infield single to Jack Wilson, loading the bases, before getting Jason Bay to fly out to center.
After Ramon Martinez and pinch-hitter Todd Walker singled to open the ninth off reliever Salomon Torres, Macias singled to left to score Martinez.
Perez allowed seven hits in 61/3 innings, striking out seven and walking four.
Daryle Ward's RBI single in the sixth inning scored Craig Wilson, who had doubled with two out, to cut Chicago's lead to 3-2.
The Pirates took a 1-0 lead on Mateo's solo homer with two outs in the second.
Mackowiak's wife, Jennifer, gave birth to their son, Garrett Matthew, just after 11 a.m. Friday. About nine hours later, Mackowiak hit a 2-1 pitch from closer Joe Borowski to right-center field for his ninth homer, and gave the Pirates the win in the opener.
"We weren't even supposed to have the baby today," Mackowiak said. "It's been a long day, but a good day. I was just trying to hit it hard somewhere and I was lucky because he left the ball out over the plate."
