NOTEBOOK From Eastwood Field

Broken bat: It's not easy to break a bat in today's college game, because of the advent of aluminum bats. But in the eighth inning of Thursday's opening game between Illinois-Chicago and UW-Milwaukee, the Flames' Bryan Russo did just that on a single up the middle.
Nearly a record: UIC pulled off four double plays in its win over UW-Milwaukee, and three of them ended innings. The record for most double plays in the tournament is five, set in 1983, when Notre Dame played Butler.
Left on base: Wright State, which was eliminated from the tournament with a 7-3 loss to Detroit, stranded 12 base runners in the contest.
In title game: Illinois-Chicago is just one victory away from getting into its fourth Horizon Tournament championship game. The Flames have been in the title game three of the last four years and four times overall. The two teams who hold the most tournament championships, Notre Dame (5) and Oral Roberts (6), are no longer in the conference. Oral Roberts, which was an opponent of YSU in the Mid-Continent Conference, was in the Horizon League for seven years and played for the title every year, winning six championships.
Ohio site: This is the third straight year that the Horizon League Tournament is being played in Ohio. Last year Dayton was the host and Cleveland State played host to the 2002 tournament.
No record: The 27 runs and 35 hits by Butler and UW-Milwaukee were quite an outburst, but still far short of the tournament record, which is 31 runs and 42 hits.
