Diana's butler: Charlessaid he had OK for affair
LONDON -- Diana, Princess of Wales, believed her husband, Prince Charles, was given permission by his father to return to his longtime love, Camilla Parker Bowles, after five years of marriage, according to Diana's former butler.
In excerpts published Thursday from a new chapter for his best-selling book, "A Royal Duty," Paul Burrell says the princess felt she had been "sold to the royal family" to "produce an heir and a spare" -- a reference to the couple's two sons.
Burrell said Diana, who died in a Paris car crash in 1997, told him Charles declared during a row that his father, Prince Philip, had agreed he could return to Parker Bowles if the marriage to Diana did not work after five years.
In an interview with the Daily Mirror, Burrell said that in releasing such details he was defending his former employer, who referred to him as "my rock."
Provo, Utah honorsresident Donny Osmond
PROVO, Utah -- Donny Osmond has been honored as an Outstanding Citizen by the Provo-Orem Chamber of Commerce for his loyalty to the Utah Valley community.
"I just love the fact that I'm a normal person here in Provo," Osmond, 46, said in accepting the award Wednesday night. "I've received many accolades, but it's extra special to receive recognition from people in your community."
Osmond said that during a recent trip to London, he was asked to sing his hit song "Puppy Love" for a television station.
Adolescent girls crowded the platform and began screaming wildly when the song began, he said.
Osmond said he stopped and asked, "Why are you screaming?"
One 16-year-old answered, "Because our moms told us to."

Jordan's brief appearancefails to satisfy Taiwanese
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Michael Jordan left the building all too soon for his faithful fans in Taiwan.
Customers there spent hundreds of dollars on Nike athletic apparel to ensure themselves a spot in the audience Saturday when the former Chicago Bulls standout visited Taiwan as part of a seven-day promotional tour of Asia.
They were disappointed when he made only a two-minute appearance.
He appeared in a short skit with two children and spoke about the importance of working hard, said Shelley Peng, a spokeswoman for Oregon-based Nike.
To resolve complaints from fans who felt slighted, Nike met Tuesday with five consumer and government agencies in Taiwan and worked out a compromise, Peng said.
Nike Taiwan will offer attendees copies of the vintage Wings poster of Jordan with his arms stretched open. The company also will give them priority entry into a future event by a visiting NBA star and will offer fans a free pair of Air Jordan 1 Retro Low shoes, which are not available for purchase in Taiwan, she said.
