Sky acquires Second National; 4 Valley branches will close



The Second National takeover has been approved by regulators.
Four Mahoning Valley bank branches will be closing as Second National Bank becomes part of Sky Bank.
Closing will be Second National branches at 2 S. Main St., Poland, and 24 W. Liberty St., Hubbard.
Also closing will be Sky branches at 143 S. High St., Cortland, and 8215 E. Market St., Howland.
Outside this area, seven branches will close. Other Sky branches closing are in Ashtabula, Conneaut and Jefferson. Second National branches closing are in Beachwood, Aurora, Fairlawn and Stow.
Sky is closing branches in areas where it and Second National have offices that are close to each other.
The closings are to come during the July 4 weekend, when Sky will be switching over Second National's computer systems. Also at that time, Second National branches will be renamed. Sky has 260 branches in five states, and Second National has 33 branches and six loan offices in nine Ohio counties.
Sky Financial Group, the Bowling Green-based parent company of Sky Bank, said Wednesday that the acquisition of Second National has been approved by the Federal Reserve System in Washington.
Shareholders of Second Bancorp, the Warren-based parent of Second National, have approved the deal, which is expected to close July 1. Second Bancorp shareholders are to receive 1.26 shares of Sky stock for each share they own.
Sky has said it is eliminating 220 of the 630 jobs at Second National and is transferring 120 workers to new positions.
