MERCER
Sharon, Pa. -- Parade, 11 a.m. Monday, begins at Case Avenue and East State Street, moves west on State, then north on Oakland Avenue to Oakwood Cemetery for a ceremony.
State Street, from Case to Oakland, and Case and Oakland will be closed to vehicular traffic starting at 10:45 a.m. until the parade ends.
Mercer, Pa.: Parade, 11 a.m. Monday, beginning at Mercer Post Office, Venango Street. Deuce and a Half trucks will be provided to carry nonmarching veterans. Lineup begins at 9:30 a.m. Organized by citizens; 300 American flags will complement the tree-lined parade route. Two World War II veterans and one Korean War veteran are the honorees. Col. Gary Solander, director of the Mercer County Veterans Affairs Administration, will speak at Citizens Cemetery after the parade.
The Penn-Ohio Singers, bagpipers from the New Castle Police Department and the Mercer High School Marching Band will perform at the cemetery and a firing party from various parts of Mercer County will assemble to perform a 21 Gun Salute as the pipers play taps.
East Palestine: Ceremony, noon Saturday, East Palestine City Park Gazebo, sponsored by American Legion Post 31 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4579 and their auxiliaries. World War II and Korean War veterans will be honored. U.S. Rep. Ed Strickland, D-6th, will give the main address. Those planning to attend should contact Jane Walker at (330) 426-3203.
