MAHONING
Austintown: Memorial Day parade, 10:45 a.m. Monday, from Marc's parking lot on Mahoning Avenue and will proceed to Austintown Fitch High School Veterans Memorial via Idaho Road, where commemorative rites, sponsored by American Legion Memorial Post 301, and VFW Post 4327, will be at 11 a.m. Parade marshal is Joseph McCormick. Guest speaker is Ohio Rep. Kenneth A. Carano of Austintown, D-59th. The American Legion and VFW honor guards will lead the parade, followed by the Fitch Matching Band and other community organizations.Boardman: Memorial Day services will be at Lake Park Cemetery at 11 a.m. Monday at the front entrance of the cemetery. Music will be provided by Struthers High School Band and guest speaker will be Roderick Hosler, assistant professor of military science at Youngstown State University. Donna Burford, commander of American Legion Post 158, will conduct the services.Boardman: Memorial Day parade, 10 a.m. Monday, from Center Middle School on Market to U.S. Route 224 then on to Boardman Township Park where Memorial Day services will be held.Campbell: Memorial Day services, 9 a.m. Monday, St. John's Cemetery, then to Archangel Michael, St. John's Russian, St. Nicholas and St. Michael's and Pioneer Methodist cemeteries. A program at Campbell Memorial High School Monument, sponsored by American Legion F.D.R. Post 560 and VFW Post 4723, will begin at 11 a.m. Keynote speaker will be Walter M. Duzzny, director of the Mahoning County Emergency Management Agency.Canfield: Memorial Day parade, 10 a.m. Monday, from the Green, proceeding to the cemetery for a service, and ending at the Canfield War Museum for another service. Capt. Brent Davis of the Youngstown Air Reserve Station will be the keynote speaker. Sgt. John Szewczyk, a veteran of the current Iraq war, will present the museum with a wreath honoring the men and women serving overseas. In addition, the museum will premiere a new room Monday featuring exhibits on terrorism and American Indians.Greenford: Green Township Ruritan Memorial Day Parade, 9 a.m. Monday. Participants should assemble at 8 a.m. in Greenford Christian Church parking lot. Prizes for floats, decorated bicycles and horse groups. All participants with decorated bicycles receive $2.Lowellville: Memorial Day services, sponsored by the American Legion and the village, 9:45 a.m. Monday, Holy Rosary Cemetery. Mayor Jim Iudiciani will deliver the keynote address. New Middletown: Memorial Day parade, 9:30 a.m. Monday. A prayer service will follow at 10:15 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church.New Springfield: Triangle Post 2799, Memorial Day services and open house, 1 p.m. Sunday, 3161 East South Range Road. Refreshments provided. The building is now handicapped-accessible with new restrooms.Poland: 2004 Memorial Day Parade and Ceremonies, 10 a.m. Monday. Participants are asked to report to the Cortland Street practice field, next to the American Legion Mahoning Valley Post 15 Home at 8:45 a.m. The parade will proceed to the Riverside Cemetery, with ceremonies by the Sons of the American Legion Mahoning Valley Squadron 15, and a ceremony at the Main Street Bridge. The guest speaker is Rep. Ted Strickland of Lisbon, D-6th. Recently the National American Legion gave Strickland the Unsung Hero Award for his work with veterans. In the event of rain, services will be at the Middle School on College Street.Youngstown: United Veterans Council of Greater Youngstown Memorial Day Parade, 3 p.m. Monday, starting at Spring Commons and ending at the Mahoning County Court House steps. The route has been changed because of construction in the downtown area. Donna Russo, junior vice president of the Ohio VFW Ladies Auxiliary, is parade marshal. Dean McClain, United Veterans Council commander, will lead the organization's officers and divisions. William Kohn is parade chairman.Struthers: The Tri-State Marine Corps League Detachment, and the Rolling Thunder will hold a service at 8 a.m. at the Beirut Memorial, Route 616, Struthers. A service also will be at 9 a.m. Monday under the Route 616 bridge honoring service personnel who were buried at sea. Sherman Miles, commander of VFW Post 7538 will conduct the service. At 10 a.m. Monday, a service will be at Struthers High School Memorial Stone. Ray Ornelas, first vice commander of VFW Post 3538, will conduct the service. Placing of the wreaths will be by VFW Auxiliary of Posts 3538 and 7538. Music will be presented by Struthers High School Band.
Youngstown: World War II Prayer Breakfast of the Veterans Service Commission, 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Maronite Center, 155 Meridian Road. The breakfast is free to all WWII veterans. The event coincides with the dedication of the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. Local veterans service organizations and businesses can buy co-sponsorships at $250 for 16 tickets. The organizations can distribute the tickets themselves, or the breakfast committee will distribute tickets to the veterans and their families. Individuals or organizations wanting to make a contribution or buy a sponsorship can call John Twohig and the Veterans Service Commission at (330) 740-2451.Parade downtown Youngstown will be at 3 p.m. Monday.
TRUMBULL
Bristol: Ceremonies, 9:30 a.m. Monday, Sager Memorial Cemetery in North Bristol. Services at Pioneer Cemetery in Bristolville, 10 a.m. followed by a march to Evergreen Cemetery for a 10:15 a.m. ceremony. Bristol Town Park services, 10:40 a.m., Bristolville Center and will feature the decoration of the World War II veterans monument and other park memorials.Girard: Girard Veterans Council prayer and rifle salute with taps and services, 9:15 a.m. Sunday, Cecedar's Corner Cemetery; 9:35 a.m., Churchill Cemetery; 10 a.m., Belmont Cemetery; 11 a.m., Parkwood Memorial; noon, Girard Viaduct; 12:30 p.m., Girard City Memorial.Girard: City Memorial Day service, 10 a.m. Monday, Girard Cemetery, where a wreath will be placed and the Gettysburg Address will be read. State Sen. Marc Dann of Liberty, D-32nd, is the guest speaker. Afterward there will be a brief service at Army-Navy Garrison 422 in McKinley Heights.There will be no parade because of U.S. Route 422 construction. Hubbard: Hubbard Memorial Day Honorary Procession, 10 a.m. Monday. The parade will form at 8:30 a.m. at the top of Princeton Avenue. It will march to Hubbard Union Cemetery for services and them to the War Memorial at police headquarters for an observance. If inclement weather, service will be at 10 a.m. at the city administration building.Liberty: Girard Veterans Council prayer and rifle salute with taps and services, 10:25 a.m. Sunday, Liberty Park.Niles: Memorial Day services, 11 a.m. Monday, Niles City Cemetery, state Route 46. Guest speaker will be S/Sgt. Jason R. Reagon.McDonald: The volunteer fire department is sponsoring services at 1 p.m. Monday beginning with a parade from the high school to the memorial in Woodland Park, weather permitting. In case of rain, the ceremonies will take place in the Ramsey Pavilion. Refreshments will be served in the fire bay after the ceremony. Vienna: Crown Hill Burial Park, 3966 Warren-Sharon Road, will have two Memorial Day services Monday. The first will be at 9 a.m. by VFW Post 3521 at the north end of the cemetery at the Veterans Memorial. The second service will be at 10 a.m. at the Chapel of Love Mausoleum. The guest of honor will be Maj. James W. McJunkin, a WWII veteran, who will receive a Letter of Commendation. There will be a full dress Marine Color Guard, presentation of taps and bagpipes, and a possible flyover from the Air Force.Warren: Pineview Memorial Park, 4049 Youngstown Road, will conduct activities throughout the weekend in observance of the holiday. At 1 p.m. Saturday, Brian and Rachell of the Lost and Found Ministry will deliver a presentation followed by a 2 p.m. performance by Donna Marie Patmon of J & amp;J Dance Depo. A veterans program will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the cemetery with the First Calvary Baptist Church Mass Choir performing at 3 p.m. At noon Monday, keyboard player Greg Johnson from Jammin Johnson Productions, who is a cousin of the late Korey Stringer, the Warren native who played football for the Minnesota Vikings and died of heatstroke a few years ago, will perform a tribute to the late athlete. At 1 p.m., Marita Owens, a soloist from Chaney High School, will perform.Weathersfield: Girard Veterans Council prayer and rifle salute with taps and services, 11:45 a.m. Sunday.

Lisbon: Traditional pre-Memorial Day Song Service, 10 p.m. Sunday, Lisbon Historical Society Train Station on East Washington Street. Those participating should meet at the Post 275 Legion Hall at 9 p.m. On Monday, all parade marching units will form at the Legion Hall on West Lincoln Way at 8:45 a.m. and the parade will leave for the cemetery at 9 a.m. The speaker is the Rev. Betsy Schenk, pastor at the Lisbon First United Methodist Church. Area scouting groups, Camp Fire, civic organizations and children with decorated bicycles are urged to participate.Washingtonville: Annual Memorial Day Commemoration, sponsored by VFW Post 5532 and American Legion Post 131, Leetonia, on Monday. The parade will start at 10 a.m. at the Washingtonville Pharmacy and proceed to the Community Memorial on the VFW grounds. Special recognition is planned for World War II veterans in attendance. Guest speaker is Retired Navy Vice Admiral Anthony Less, former commander of the Navy's Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Squadron and commander of the Naval Air Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet.Salem: Memorial Day parade sponsored by the Salem Patriotic and Memorial Day Association, 10 a.m. outside the American Legion Building at State Street and South Lincoln. The lineup is at 9:30 a.m. The parade ends at Hope Cemetery for the Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. All civic and fraternal organizations interested in participating should call (330) 332-9810.Washingtonville: Veterans of Foreign Wars York Drexler Post 5532 informal reception/luncheon, 12:30 p.m. Saturday for local World War II veterans. The event is in conjunction with the World War II Memorial dedication in Washington, D.C. WWII veterans are asked to bring any memorabilia they would like to share, and are invited to stay and view the Memorial dedication on television beginning at 2 p.m. Membership in the VFW is not required to attend.
