Handel's sweetens visitfrom Bush with ice cream
CANFIELD -- Handel's Homemade Ice Cream said it delivered 70 pints of assorted ice cream flavors to the White House press corps and the staff of President Bush during the president's visit to the area Tuesday. The Canfield-based business, which is owned by Leonard Fisher, has corporate and franchise stores in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Indiana.
YSD gets tax credits,grants to fund expansion
AUSTINTOWN -- YSD Industries has been awarded a 55 percent tax credit for six years to expand its rail-car production. The credit, which will be worth about $66,800, was approved by the Ohio Tax Credit Authority.
The Henricks Road plant, which employs 85, was acquired recently by Canada-based Global Railway Industries. It told the state it tends to create 25 jobs in three years with a $1.2 million upgrade. To receive the credit, it is required to maintain operation at the site for 12 years. YSD also received a partial tax abatement from the county on the improvements.
Other state assistance includes a $20,000 Business Development grant and a $38,000 grant from the Ohio Investment in Training Program.
Farmers National dividend
CANFIELD -- Farmers National Banc Corp., the parent of Farmers National Bank, declared a quarterly dividend of 16 cents a share on its common stock, payable June 30 to shareholders of record on June 11.
The board also approved a stock-buying plan that will allow the company to buy 4.9 percent of its outstanding common stock during the next 12 months. The plan replaces a similar program enacted last year.
