Federal League rivals split pair



AUSTINTOWN -- The Fitch High baseball team split a doubleheader with Boardman in Federal League action Tuesday.
The Falcons rallied for four runs in the top of the ninth inning to top the Spartans 5-2 in the first game, which was suspended on May 18 because of bad weather.
Bob Melnek (6-0) came on in the sixth inning to pick up the win. Mike Eliseo hit a home run for the Falcons.
Dan Ford hit a home run and double for the Spartans.
In the second game, the Spartans rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to prevail 8-7.
Jeff Kotel hit a home run, double and single and drove in two runs for the Falcons, who are 20-7 overall and 8-6 in the Federal League. John Mang hit a pair of singles and drove in two runs.
The five-run seventh inning by Boardman was sparked by Nate Tacsik's two-run home run and Cameron Cimino's two-run single.
Ford went 3-for-3, with two home runs for Boardman, giving him nine, as the Spartans completed their season.
