Maplewood advances behind Pozzuto's 23 Ks



ORWELL -- Markie Pozzuto tossed a complete game four-hitter, striking out 23 batters and walking just two, as the Maplewood High softball team defeated Ledgemont 2-0 in 10 innings to win the Division IV district championship on Monday at Grand Valley High School.
The Rockets (19-2) will play Dalton (17-8) in a regional semifinal at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kent State University.
Pozzuto, Lisa Flickinger, Melissa Shipman and Brandy Dickerson each had two hits for Maplewood, which totaled 12 hits.
Melissa Sparks got the loss for Ledgemont (16-8).
Regular season
BOARDMAN -- Krysta Sylvester had two hits, including a double, and an RBI as the Boardman High softball team beat Massillon Jackson 3-1 in a Federal League game on Monday.
Meagan Cunningham added a two-run double for the Spartans (24-3, 10-2), who are tied with Uniontown Lake for first place in the league. Ashley DiDomenico (21-3) struck out three and walked one, holding the Polar Bears to two hits.
Jackson is 9-14, 4-10.
