Yankees 8, Rangers 3
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Enrique Wilson homered and drove in three runs as New York avoided a three-game sweep. Javier Vazquez (4-4) allowed three runs and six hits in six innings with six strikeouts, and won for the first time since April 30. Alex Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a single, double and two strikeouts, and extended his streak of consecutive games reaching base to 32, the longest in the majors this season.
White Sox 17, Twins 7
MINNEAPOLIS -- Carlos Lee had four hits and drove in six runs, and Miguel Olivo and Juan Uribe hit consecutive homers in an eight-run fourth inning. Aaron Rowand also had four hits, including a three-run homer, and scored four times as the White Sox set season highs for runs and hits (23).
Red Sox 7, Blue Jays 2
BOSTON -- David Ortiz had three hits and three RBIs and Tim Wakefield pitched seven innings as Boston completed a three-game sweep. The Red Sox jumped to a 6-0 lead after three innings. Toronto has lost five straight on the road and is 8-14 away from SkyDome. Toronto starter Miguel Batista (2-4) remained winless on the road this season.
Mariners 3, Tigers 1
SEATTLE -- Freddy Garcia pitched seven innings and John Olerud hit a solo home run for Seattle. Raul Ibanez drove in two runs as the Mariners won for only the third time in their last 14 games. Garcia (2-3) held Detroit to four hits with seven strikeouts and four walks.
Angels 8, Orioles 3
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Vladimir Guerrero homered and Jose Guillen hit a three-run double as Anaheim completed a three-game sweep. Aaron Sele (3-0) allowed three runs -- two earned -- and six hits through five innings. Daniel Cabrera (2-1) was charged with six runs, nine hits and three walks in four innings as Baltimore lost its fourth straight.
Athletics 3, Royals 2, 10 innings
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Eric Byrnes singled in the winning run in the 10th and Oakland completed its second three-game sweep of Kansas City in a week. Arthur Rhodes (1-1) struck out two in the 10th for the win. The A's have won five straight and eight of nine overall, and have beaten the Royals 10 straight times. Mike Sweeney hit a solo home run for Kansas City.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Mets 4, Rockies 0
NEW YORK -- Tom Glavine came within four outs of the first no-hitter in Mets history and finished with a one-hitter. Glavine retired the first 18 batters before a leadoff walk in the seventh inning and got two outs in the eighth before Kit Pellow doubled off the right-field wall. The two-time Cy Young winner struck out eight and walked one. Glavine's 23rd career shutout was the 27th one-hitter in team history. Kaz Matsui and Cliff Floyd homered in the first inning.
Diamondbacks 4, Marlins 3
MIAMI -- Randy Johnson didn't allow a baserunner until the third inning in his first outing since throwing a perfect game last week, and Arizona scored four times with two outs in the fifth against Dontrelle Willis (4-3). Johnson extended his string of consecutive batters retired to 39 over his last three starts -- two shy of Jim Barr's major league record set in 1972. But the run ended when Abraham Nunez led off the third with a double.
Braves 5, Dodgers 1
ATLANTA -- Mike Hampton homered and pitched six scoreless innings for his first win of the season. Hampton (1-5) allowed nine hits and walked two, but pitched out of two bases-loaded jams. He also hit his 13th career homer -- most among active pitchers. Chipper Jones added a two-run shot and rookie Nick Green drove in Atlanta's other two runs.
Reds 7, Astros 0
CINCINNATI -- Cory Lidle pitched his third career shutout and Ken Griffey Jr. hit a two-run homer in Cincinnati's fifth straight win. The Reds have won eight of nine and Houston has lost a season-high four straight. The Reds turned three double plays behind Lidle. Griffey hit his ninth homer and the 490th of his career. Sean Casey had three more hits, including a solo homer that raised his average to an NL-best to .380.
Phillies 6, Padres 4
PHILADELPHIA -- Tomas Perez hit a two-run homer and Vicente Padilla (4-4) won his fourth straight start. Jimmy Rollins also homered for the Phillies. Pat Burrell hit a go-ahead single in the fifth and Todd Pratt added a two-run single in the eighth.
Cubs 4, Cardinals 3
CHICAGO -- Matt Clement earned his team-best sixth win and Aramis Ramirez hit a three-run homer in the first inning. Clement (6-3) went seven innings, retiring 11 straight during one stretch and allowing three hits -- including Albert Pujols' 12th homer in the sixth and Scott Rolen's 10th in the seventh that made it a one-run game. Joe Borowski got three outs for his eighth save and club-record 22nd straight dating to Aug. 5, and the Cubs moved into a tie with the Reds for first place in the NL Central.
