Fashions are in vogue on and off course

KNIGHT RIDDER NEWSPAPERS
Considering the media exposure golf enjoys, it is surprising that style has not been a part of the scene.
We know Tiger Woods gave Nike a rocket-powered boost by wearing the company's polo shirt. But no one tunes in to the fairways to see the latest in khaki and kelly green jackets.
Don't bet on that for the future. Time magazine says a company called Urban Golf Gear is targeting women, teens, urban players and rappers with sexier, edgier clothes.
We don't know whether spaghetti strap tanks and skinny T's will fit many clubs' dress codes, but the company founder, Craig Tanner, thinks celebrities such as Samuel Jackson and Justin Timberlake will soon be wearing the "Ugg Man" logo, a drawing of an African-American guy with dreadlocks.
People buy golf clothes to wear off the course, Time notes. It's not surprising that John Galliano of Christian Dior cashed in on the idea with golf gear such as a pink and yellow argyle-patterned bag and matching knickers. Chanel's Karl Lagerfeld added a golf group in black and white.
