Shalaway teaching
Nature columnist Dr. Scott Shalaway will be teaching a one-week course, "Ornithology for Teachers," at Ohio State University's Stone Laboratory on Gilbraltar Island in Lake Erie. The course meets June 20-26 and will prepare teachers to incorporate wild birds into their classroom activities.

The association kicks off a summer series at Pymatuning Reservoir on May 29 at the New Bowers Road ramp. Registration starts at 6:15 a.m. and the event starts at 7 a.m.
Each 2 person team pays $50 for the season and entry fees for each of the seven qualifiers is $30. The circuit will fish Pymatuning, Mosquito, and Berlin throughout the summer months.

West Branch Muskie tournament June 12-13
A muskie tournament will be held from 7 a.m. June 12 to 3 p.m. June 13 at West Branch Reservoir.

SHOOTING
Skeet results
Several area skeet shooters posted results at the recent John Haugh's Colormatrix Open Skeet Championships May 14 -16 at the Sportsman's Shooting Center, 6501 State St., Canton.
The tournament, termed as one of the largest such tournaments in Ohio, brought more than 100 skeet shooters together.
Local results included: 12-gauge event, Denny Crawford, Warren, 100 in the AA3 category; 28-gauge, Denny Crawford, Warren, 100 in the AAA3 category; Carroll Smith, Sandy Lake, Pa., 97, B2; Tom Stantial, Cortland, 96, C2; Cecil Smith, Sandy Lake, Pa., 91, D2; 20-gauge, Dick Cameron, Masury, 100, AA3; .410 event, Chuck Isaac, New Castle, Pa., 100, RU; Tom Stantial, Cortland, 90, C3; High Over-All, Chuck Isaac, New Castle, 399, RU.

Club awards honors
The Armadillo Rifle Club, sponsored by the Western Reserve Fish & amp; Game Protective Association, West Third Street, Niles, recently honored its top shooters at an awards banquet.
Top honor of distinguished expert award went to Ashley Lewis, 16, of Girard, the Ohio State Female Air Rifle Champion and Armadillo team captain, and James Martin, 16, of Austintown.
The distinguished expert award is the top qualification awarded shooters in the NRA's civilian marksmanship program. There are six other levels to pass through as well as smaller steps along the way, before becoming an distinguished expert.
The Armadillos shoot in a local youth league that includes teams from Howland, Vienna, Pittsburgh, Beaver Local and Youngstown. Other Armadillo members include Justin Murphy, Eric Myers, Kristen Caldwell and Nick Mishko.
