CENE PARK District finals postponed to Sunday

Fitch will play Lakeside, followed by two games.
STRUTHERS -- At least there won't be any tournament baseball games called today on account of rain.
That's because the three contests postponed Friday at Cene Park have been rescheduled for Sunday because of drenched fields.
Two games got under way Friday afternoon before thunderstorms pounded the Mahoning Valley.
In the Division I game, Ashtabula Lakeside has a 2-0 lead over Fitch in the second inning.
In the Div. IV game, Western Reserve has a 3-2 lead over McDonald in the third inning.
The Division II game between Canfield and Niles will be played Sunday at 4 p.m.
Fitch
Thanks to Mother Nature, Fitch will be able to step back and regroup before the Falcons resume against Lakeside Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cene Park.
The Dragons scored two unearned runs in the top of the second inning, thanks in part to two Falcons errors in the frame, and were leading the game 2-0 in the bottom of the second when the game was suspended.
Fitch has a runner at first base with no outs and a 1-1 count on batter Mike Brown.
Lakeside (17-5) had a chance to score in the first. A leadoff walk and a two-out error at shortstop put runners on first and second. Fitch pitcher John Mang (3-3) struck out the next batter looking to end the threat.
Fitch (18-6) had a chance to score in their half of the inning. One out singles by Bob Melnek and Mike Eliseo gave the Falcons runners on first and second.
However undefeated left-handed Lakeside starter Dave Faulkerson (7-0) got Shane Roach to hit into a force out at second base. Dragons second baseman Brendan Palm made a fine running catch in short right field of a fly ball off the bat of Mang to end the frame.
Mang walked the leadoff hitter, Jon Gogul to start the second inning. Ryan Fleming bunted and reached first when Mang dropped the ball for an error.
Joe DeTore then attempted another sacrifice bunt. Fitch catcher Roche fielded the bunt and threw out the lead runner at third for the first out.
The next Lakeside batter, Stavros Mermis, hit a potential inning ending double play ball to third. However Matt Lutz' throw pulled Dom Modarelli off the bag for an error.
The Falcons caught a break as the DeTore, thinking he was going to be out, overran the bag and was tagged out.
Back-to-back singles by Nick Presciano and Faulkerson scored two runs.
Lutz singled to open the Fitch second and with a 1-1 count on Brown the umpires stopped the game and cleared the field before the storms hit.
Fitch trailed in their semifinal game to Solon on Wednesday 3-0 before tying the game in the sixth inning, and winning the game in the bottom of the seventh.
Division IV
Jeff Zatchok got tired of waiting.
After Thursday's Div. IV district baseball championship game between Western Reserve and McDonald at Cene Park was postponed, both teams were anxious to get things under way Friday.
Zatchok, the scheduled starting pitcher for Western Reserve, was listed to bat seventh in the lineup.
With his team already leading 3-0 and one out in the top of the first inning, Zatchok took a strike from the McDonald pitcher before Western Reserve manager Paul Henderson discovered he was batting out of order.
The home plate umpire allowed the correct hitter, Josh Smith, to assume the 0-1 count and he subsequently struck out. Zatchok flew out to end the inning.
McDonald (11-9), which beat Western Reserve (13-11) twice during the season in Inter-County League play, scored twice in the first to narrow the gap before the game was halted.
The teams will resume play Sunday following the conclusion of the Canfield-Niles game (approximately 6 p.m.)
