BUCS NOTES | From PNC Park

Gone: OF Raul Mondesi cleared waivers after the Pirates terminated his contract this week. Anaheim, Boston, Seattle and St. Louis are among the teams supposedly showing interest in him. Doll night moved: The Pirates' promotion Friday, scheduled to be Robert Clemente Nesting Doll Night, was moved to Aug. 13 when the Rockies are in town. Wilson to play: An MRI exam on Pirates SS Jack Wilson's left calf revealed no structural damage, and he expects to play today. Wilson said he was injured at some point during a doubleheader Wednesday against San Diego. When he awoke the next morning and went to pick up a toy belonging to one of his children, he realized his calf was "stiffer than usual."Surgery: LHP Paul Maholm, the Pirates' first-round draft pick last season, had surgery Friday in Pittsburgh to repair the area around his left eye. Maholm, pitching for Class A Lynchburg, was struck in the face by a line drive during a game last Saturday. The blow broke his nose and orbital bones around his eye. He is expected to remain in Pittsburgh for 7-to-10 days and to make a full recovery. Boyd cleared: Pirates RHP Jason Boyd cleared waivers and chose to report to Triple-A Nashville instead of becoming a free agent. Little rest: RHP Kris Benson will start on three days rest Sunday, because the Pirates played a doubleheader Wednesday. "I don't think he's ever done that," manager Lloyd McClendon said. "He's excited about the opportunity."
