Bennett, Miller each win twice to lead Ursuline to third-place spot



CRESTON -- Cierra Bennett and Tiffani Miller, both of the Ursuline High girls track team, each won two events to lead the Irish to a third-place finish at the Division III district track and field meet Saturday at Norwayne High School.
Bennett won the 400-meter dash in 58.4 seconds, while Western Reserve's Emily Johnson (60.7) finished third.
Bennett and Johnson also finished 1-2 in the 200 meters in 26.7 and 27.13.
Miller took first place in the 800-meter run (2:24.79) and the 1,600 (5:24.2).
The top four finishers in each event qualified for this week's regional meet in Navarre.
Ursuline was third with 65 points behind Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas (1601/2 ) and Smithville (71.3).
Bennett and Miller also joined with Mary Hendricks and Tiffany Walsh to place second (10:09) in the 4x800 relay.
Jackson-Milton senior Luke McCluggage set a record as he won the boys' 1,600 (4:28.4). The old mark of 4:33.3 was set by Rootstown's Josh Morgan in 1996. McCluggage (10:06.61) also won the 3200.
Teammate Dean Stevens was third in the 200 (24.2) and fourth in the 100 (11.67).
Bryan Shawn (2;03.96) of Western Reserve placed third in the 800. The Bluejays' Chris Truit placed fourth in both the 110 high hurdles (16.99) and 300 hurdles (42.84).
Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas won the boys crown with 156 points and Dalton was second with 871/2.
