Anniversary Mass, surprise brunch, held for Macalas



XCAMPBELL -- Mr. and Mrs. John G. Macala, 588 Karolina Drive, were honored on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary at a celebratory Mass held May 16 at St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church.
Afterward the couple accepted congratulations during a surprise brunch. Hosts for the event were the Macala's son, Atty. Brian J. Macala of Campbell, and daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ron Cusano of Boardman, and their two grandchildren.
The former Mary Lou Baka and Mr. Macala, both natives of Campbell, were united in marriage May 16, 1954, at St. Michael Church.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Mr. Macala retired in 1990 from the Malone-Day Co. of Warren and Youngstown where he was a sales representative. He was the founder and leader of a movement that brought Home Rule Charter government to Campbell, and has served on the Charter Review Commission. He is a member and former president of St. Michael Church Civic Club.
Mrs. Macala was employed in the classified advertising department at The Vindicator. She was active in the PTA at Campbell schools, and is currently an active member of Campbell Academic Association and Friends of Campbell Library. She is a member and past president of St. Michael Church Infant Jesus of Prague Guild.
