Animal Welfare League plans June 18 golf classic



Swing out to Avalon Lakes Golf Course and help animals in need.
HOWLAND -- The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County will sponsor its seventh annual golf classic June 18 at Avalon Lakes Golf Course.
Registration and lunch are scheduled for 11 a.m., and a shotgun start will be at noon.
Tickets are $65 per player. Golfers may play in groups; the league will help participants form teams.
The competitions will include longest putt, closest to the pin, accuracy drive and hit the green. There will be cash prizes for the top three scores in men's, women's and mixed teams.
The outing also will feature a 50-50 raffle, door prizes and a Chinese auction. There also will be a catered buffet dinner.

About the league
The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County was established in 1969. The league launched its animal shelter in 1984 with the purchase of an old boarding kennel, which has since undergone extensive renovation. The league also has an emergency rescue team, formed in 1980, to respond to animal emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a seek, for all species of animals.
The league investigates more than 400 animal abuse cases annually and prosecutes those individuals who break the law. To report animal abuse in Trumbull County call (330) 399-2086.
The non-profit humane organization is a 501C3 charity. Proceeds from the golf outing will benefit league projects.
The league's hours are from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays; and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Adoption forms must be filled out and approved. Adoption fees are $45-55 for cats and kittens, $45-55 plus dog license for puppies and dogs and $75 plus dog license for companion dogs that have been trained through the program at the Trumbull Correctional Institution. These dogs also are spayed or neutered.
