PREP BASEBALL All-Star Classic set Saturday at Cene
Players from Trumbull and Mahoning County will battle in two games.
STRUTHERS -- The Coca-Cola All-Star Classic, featuring senior baseball players from high schools in Mahoning and Trumbull counties, will be played Saturday at Bob Cene Park.
The event will consist of two games, starting at 5 p.m. In the first game, players from Division III-IV schools will compete, followed at 7:30 p.m. by players from Div. I-II schools.
The event is sponsored by Coca-Cola of Northern Ohio, Inc.
Div. I-II
Representing Mahoning County in the Div. I-II game will be Dan Ford, Josh Susany and Matt Madrid of Boardman; Adam Boris, Aaron Boris and Jeff Shaffo of Chaney; Carl Scott of Rayen; Matt McBride of Wilson; John Virtosko, Tim Novotny, Frank Turocy and Chad Baker of Canfield; Dan Bertolini, Bill Christian, Brett Pitzulo, Dave Yost and Reid Lamport of Poland, and Steve Stenglein and Brian Walters of Struthers.
Trumbull County players in the big school game will be Tyson Rowland, Pat Elias and Justin Byler of Warren Harding; Craig Dobos of Howland; Jeff Claar of Niles; Greg Barton, Dan O'Neill and Nick Canterino of Girard; Ryan Hallapy and Troy Ruminski of Hubbard; Drew Mullee and Joe Opalka-Brown of Lakeview, and Marc Doblanski and Joe Pontuti of Liberty.
The coaches will be Tony Ross of Canfield, Rich Murray of Poland, Joe Smarella of Warren Harding and Sam Racketa of Girard.
Div. III-IV
In the Div. III-IV game, the Mahoning County players selected are Jeff Hehr of Mooney; Brad Borghetti and Cliff Panezich of Ursuline; Marck Such and Chris Melnick of Campbell Memorial; Greg Rohan, Ryan Maxwell and Dan Justice of South Range; Brad Adams and Mike Paes of Springfield; Michael Byrdy and Michael Pecchia of Youngstown Christian; Zack Tomaino and Tim Shaw of Jackson-Milton; Steve Pinciaro and Dustin Socie of Lowellville; Jake Zatchok and Nick Sanders of Western Reserve, and Andrew Wilson and Brandon Keene of Sebring.
