ESCAPE SCHOOL| Tips for children

If a strange car slows down and its occupants try to stop you while you're walking, run opposite the direction the car is facing.
If someone tries to ask you for directions or asks you for help in finding a missing dog or cat, stay away because it could be a trick.
If you need help and can't find an adult, remember fire stations are safe places to go.
If you're locked in a car's trunk, pull the trunk release handle, if any. Also, pull hard and yank the wires out of the tail-lights in the hope of making police suspicious and getting them to stop the car. Whenever the car stops, scream for help.
If someone pulls you into a car, try to grab the keys and throw them away before you run to safety.
Dial 911 and drop the phone, but don't hang it up. Police will track and respond to the call. Remember you don't need money to dial 911, even from pay phones.
To disable a car, tear a button off your clothing and push it hard into the ignition keyhole.
If you're locked inside a house and can't get out, flash the lights to try to attract police.
Also, try to ball up your socks or a towel, throw them in the toilet, and flush to clog the toilet, thereby attracting someone else's attention and getting a chance to run away.
