DIVISION IV DISTRICT SOFTBALL Mowery lifts Western Reserve

Her two-run double provided a 2-0 win and a spot in the district final.
CORTLAND -- Freshman McKenzie Mowery doubled in both runs as the Western Reserve High softball team defeated Windham, 2-0, in a Division IV district semifinal Thursday.
Today at Lakeview at 4:30 p.m., Western Reserve will meet Mineral Ridge for the district crown.
With two outs in the third inning, Katie Harmon singled and stole second. Andrea Martin, hitting second in the lineup, walked. Mowery, a shortstop, then hit a two-run double to right-center, plating Harmon and Martin.
Clutch hitter
"She's been doing that for us all year," Western Reserve coach Joe Serensky said of the clutch hit by Mowery.
"She's actually been hitting better with runners on base all year. It was no surprise."
Bolstered by the 2-0 lead, Harmon (11-4) held the Bombers to four singles. She struck out 10 and walked one.
"It was her best pitching performance of the year," Serensky said.
This is the fifth straight year Western Reserve (17-6) has been in the district.
