6 Valley high school seniors receive DeBartolo scholarships

POLAND -- Denise DeBartolo York awarded six scholarships Thursday to area graduating high school students in memory of her father, Edward J. DeBartolo Sr.
Winners were given the scholarships, totaling $30,000, during a luncheon at the Poland Village Library.
Recipients are Tsukasa Harrington of Hubbard; Donald J. Hermes of Poland; Andriel Johnson of Warren Harding; Kevin Kelsey of Lordstown; Amber Rummel of East Palestine and William A. Sadler of Cardinal Mooney.
They were selected from more than 350 applicants based on need, scholastic achievement, extracurricular activities and community involvement.
The Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. Memorial Scholarship Foundation has awarded more than $250,000 in scholarships over the past eight years.
"The goals of the foundation have been to reward Valley students, who have proven to be leaders by working hard academically and within their community, the opportunity to go to college," DeBartolo York said.
"My father believed that all students who have demonstrated intensity and desire, regardless of their financial situation, should be afforded the opportunity to receive a college education."
