2 face multiple charges in car break-ins

AUSTINTOWN -- Two men are set to appear in Mahoning County Court in Austintown Monday on charges that they broke into cars on Westchester Drive.
Nicholas Lawrence, 21, of Clyde St., Poland, is charged by police with criminal trespass, criminal damaging, and theft. Casey Berick, 19, of Edinburgh Drive, Austintown, is charged with complicity to commit theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said they noticed a man, later identified as Berick, wearing all black, standing by a car in the Westchester Drive parking lot about 3:30 a.m. When police approached, Berick ran, reports state.
Police said that while running, Berick yelled for another man who was wearing all black and was in the back seat of a car. The second man, later identified as Lawrence, ran in a different direction. While looking for the men, police found three people lying down in a car parked on Shadow Oak Drive. The people said they had dropped two men off in the area. Police eventually found Berick, arrested him and searched him.
They found a marijuana pipe in his pocket, reports state. Later, police working security in Watson Elementary School said he saw a man dressed in all black going through clothes in a lost-and-found container. The man left the school and walked toward Fitch High School.
As they approached, the man told police he was Lawrence and said, "I'm busted."
Lawrence told police he had broken into two cars with Berick as the lookout. A CD player was reported stolen from one of the cars.
