Brief profiles of the Weathersfield School District's new superintendent and high school principal.
MICHAEL HANSHAW
Age: 44
Residence: Girard.
Position: Superintendent
Employment history: Hanshaw has been principal at Mineral Ridge High School since August 1996. Before that, he was an English teacher, guidance counselor and athletic director at the high school.
Education: Attended Westminster College, New Wilmington, Pa., for certification in education administration and as a secondary principal; master's degree in education from Westminster with certification in guidance and counseling; bachelor's degree in education in 1983 from Youngstown State University.
Personal: Wife, Stacey; son, Kyle.
LEW LOWERY
Age: 54
Residence: Mineral Ridge.
Position: High school principal.
Personal: Wife, Monica; and four children, Mrs. Patte Collins, and Melissa, Michael and Daniel Lowery.
Employment history: Science teacher and athletic director at the high school since 1987, also serving as head football coach for 11 years and head track coach for six years. Taught science at St. John High School, Ashtabula, where he also was head football coach from 1982 to 1987. Taught health and physical education and was head wrestling coach and assistant football and track coach at Ursuline High School, Youngstown, from 1974 to 1982.
Education: Ursuline High School graduate, 1967; bachelor's degree in education from YSU in 1972; master's degree in education administration from YSU in 1997.
Other: President of the Weathersfield Teachers Association and the WTA's chief negotiator.
