DRUG CHARGES 20 people from NYC and Valley are indicted



All 20 face drug conspiracy charges.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Federal heroin and cocaine distribution conspiracy charges have been filed against 17 people from the Youngstown area and New York City.
The defendants are charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 2.2 pounds or more of heroin and 11 pounds or more of cocaine hydrochloride.
If convicted, they face 10 years to life in prison and could be fined up to $4 million, said Gregory A. White, U.S. attorney for the northern district of Ohio.
Those indicted were Jose R. Salcedo, 51, Steven Salcedo, 30, and Hector D. Bloise, 43, all of the Bronx, N.Y.; Juan Laviena, 54, of East Florida Avenue; Jemison Laviena, 24, of Campbell Street; Rolando Valentin, 25, of East Lucius Avenue; and Roberto Agosto-Rojas, 27, of Pyatt Street, all of Youngstown; Teresa Torres, 40, of Meadowbrook Avenue, Boardman; and Juan A. Laviena, 46, of Walter Street, Campbell.
Also named in the same May 12 indictment were five John Does, one Jane Doe, a defendant named only as Butch a k a Blackie, of the Bronx; and another named Alejandro (last name, age and address unknown). A news release from the U.S. attorney's office didn't specify which of the 17 defendants were arrested Wednesday.
Other indictments
Three more defendants, all from Youngstown, also were indicted by a federal grand jury May 12. They're charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than 3.5 ounces of heroin, heroin distribution and use of a telephone in connection with these crimes. Those indicted were Jean C. Martinez, 20, and Luis A. Martinez, 26, both of South Jackson Street, and Rolando J. Alvarez, 20, of Dogwood Drive.
If convicted, they face five to 40 years in prison and could be fined up to $2 million. All three were arrested Wednesday morning, the U.S. attorney said.
The cases were investigated by the FBI, the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force, and the Youngstown office of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
