STRUTHERS -- McDonald High scored two unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning to rally past Columbiana 4-3 in a Division IV district baseball semifinal at Cene Park Wednesday.
McDonald will face Inter-County League rival Western Reserve today at 6:30 p.m. for a trip to the regional in Elyria.
Suspended from Tuesday
The game, which was suspended by rain on Tuesday, resumed with McDonald's Tyler Stanley on second base and no outs in the top of the seventh inning. James Beedle hit a ground ball, which was misplayed, allowing Stanley to score the tying run.
Beedle then was awarded second base on a balk, but he was tagged out at third base on a ground ball.
Keith Bixtler was then hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second.
Ken McKay followed with a sharp single to left to score Vukovic, but Bixler was thrown out at third to end the inning with the Blue Devils ahead 4-3.
Stanley then retired the Clippers in order to end the game.
"We decided to do what we do best, swing the bat instead of bunting the man over," said McDonald coach Dan Williams. "Stanley is one of our fastest runners -- he did a good job of scoring on that play -- then we get the big hit from [McKay]."
Stanley got the win in relief, allowing one hit in two innings and striking out two. Beedle added two hits while Jordan Farr had a double.
Lorin Dickinson took the loss as the Clippers managed just three hits, including a double by Mike Welce.
McDonald won both regular season meetings with Western Reserve this season.
