Spring cleanup includes curbside pickup of items



NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Union Township supervisors have announced a spring cleanup schedule for township residents.
Supervisors said the first precinct will have pickup the week beginning June 7; the second precinct, the week of June 14; the fourth precinct, the week of June 21; and the third precinct, the week of June 28.
Residents are responsible for having items for pickup at curbside by the Sunday evening before the pickup.
Acceptable items include: general trash, furniture less than 5 feet in length, yard waste in bags weighing 40 pounds or less, bundles of tree limbs less than 3 feet long and weighing less than 40 pounds, small household appliances, carpet bundles less than 3 feet long and weighing less than 40 pounds, and contained food waste.
Unacceptable items include: auto tires, rims or parts; building material (plaster, cabinets, wood ceiling tile, doors, windows); refrigerators, air-conditioning units or any appliances containing chlorofluorocarbons (such as Freon); trash cans and bags exceeding 40 pounds; and hazardous material such as paint, oils, chemicals, cleaning agents and antifreeze.
Unacceptable items will be left at the curb.
The property owners must place the refuse within 3 feet of the curb line where the truck would park. Haulers will not make a second trip to any residence.
The township will not be responsible for items dropped in any yard.
