PREP TRACK Division I district competition begins Thursday



Lakeview will host a Div. III meet.
AUSTINTOWN -- Division I athletes will begin their quest for state berths at the district track and field meet Thursday at Fitch High Falcons Stadium.
Seventeen boys and 14 girls teams will compete, including defending champions Uniontown Lake (boys) and Boardman (girls).
Familiar names returning include hurdlers Tony Davis (14.2 seconds) of Howland, Mark Lipinsky (14.3) of Boardman and Brandon Vaughn (14.8) of Warren Harding.
Contenders in the dashes are Wilson's Kenny Adams (10), Poland's Scott Streiner and Dave Koval, Warren Harding's Richard Davis, Rayen's Dorian Townsend and Fitch's Eric Chine.
Anthony Hoke of Warren Harding, Sam Cassano of Fitch, Brandon Alexander of Howland, Chine and David Medicus of Fitch will be featured in the shot put, discus, high jump and pole vault, respectively.
Among the best girls competitors are Boardman's Jessica Moore, Brittany Durkin, Carrie Zorman, Jenna Higbee, Autumn Parrish, Michelle Bristica, Kristen Lauer and Brook Katzman; Canfield's Emily Wollet (defending 200 and 400-meter champ), Laura Vershum, McKenzie Kline, Andrea Murdock and Stephanie Jarvis' and Wilson's Anique Donlow.
Division III
CORTLAND -- Field events for the Div. III meet at Lakeview High School will begin Thursday at 4 p.m. Preliminaries in the sprints, hurdles and relays get under way at 4:30 p.m. The boys and girls 4x800 relay finals will be held.
Junior Nick Panezich of Springfield, a two-time state qualifier, will bring to the event efforts of 59 feet, 6 inches in the shot put and 191 feet, 3 inches in the discus.
Leetonia's Aaron Merrill and Maplewood's Justin Wadja will contend in the throws.
Shane Golden (10.8 seconds) of Warren JFK will be the athlete to beat in the sprints while Greg Dominic of Mineral Ridge will be featured in the long jump.
Jenn Grayson of Maplewood, Kaitlyn Nasci of Brookfield, Abbey Riser of Mineral Ridge and Angeline Cicero of Warren JFK should make the 100 and 300 hurdles races interesting.
South Range's Ann Sanders will be the favorite in the 3200 with the area's best time of 11 minutes, 52 seconds. She also will be in the 1600.
Challenging in the distance runs will be Samantha Boner of Badger.
