Some residents of an east-central Ohio village were evacuated from their homes by boat because of rising water from severe thunderstorms, authorities said.
Perry County sheriff's officials didn't know how many Corning residents had to leave their homes Tuesday night but said no one was hurt.
Firefighters were taking the people to the fire department in the village 55 miles southeast of Columbus so they could get assistance from the Red Cross, a sheriff's office dispatcher said.
Sgt. Paul Drake said there are about 60 homes in the area where the water was rising.
"There's several feet of water in the village itself, and it's still raining here," Drake said.
A message seeking comment was left for the Perry County Emergency Management Agency.
Authorities closed roads in several counties because of storms packing heavy rain and brilliant lightning, sheriff's offices said.
