PENNSYLVANIA Grants to benefit local communities



Projects range from identifying wetlands to buying computer equipment.
SHARON, Pa. -- Pennsylvania has awarded eight community revitalization grants totaling $135,000 to a variety of Mercer County projects.
Sen. Robert Robbins of Greenville, R-50th, said the grants from the Department of Community and Economic Development are designed to support projects that promote community improvement and job creation.
"These grants represent state tax dollars returning to the community to benefit local endeavors," Robbins said.
The grants are:
U$25,000 to the Greenville-Reynolds Development Corp. to fund replacement of a roof of a building vacated by Werner Ladder Co. in 2003. The repairs will make the building ready for lease.
U$25,000 to Hermitage for completion of the conceptual design of the LindenPointe Technical Incubator and Training Facility to be located in LindenPointe Planned Technical Park.
U$25,000 to Penn-Northwest Development Corp. to identify wetlands and streams at a potential business and industrial park off Interstate 80 in East Lackawannock and Findley Townships and at a planned development site near I-80 and Pa. Route 60 in Shenango Township. The project is part of the Strategy 1000 effort to develop 1,000 acres of business park property in Mercer County.
U$20,000 to the Greenville Area Economic Development Corp. to install shower and restroom facilities at the Greenville Municipal Airport.
U$20,000 to the Jamestown Future Foundation to help restore the roof of the Carriage House at the Gibson House historical site.
U$10,000 to the Greenville Historical Society for renovations to the Waugh House Museum, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
U$5,000 to the Jefferson Township Civic League for cementing the floor of the Jefferson Township Fair hall.
U$5,000 to Greene Township to help buy computer equipment and create an administrative office in the municipal building.
