Best Bets on TV Tonight

It's a classic. John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John costar in "Grease" (8 p.m., VH1) as summer lovers who find that keeping the romance going during the school year is no easy feat. You'll be humming the songs all week long.
Michael Moore's 2002 film "Bowling for Columbine" (8 p.m., TMC), winner of an Academy Award for best documentary, explores why the rate of handgun deaths in the United States is so much higher than that of other industrialized nations.
"60 Minutes: Salute to Don Hewitt" (9 p.m., CBS) is in honor of the creator of the venerated TV newsmagazine, who is stepping down as executive producer this month after 36 seasons. Among his contributions, Hewitt, 81, has been credited with redefining the role of the news anchor. And though he's leaving the show he started in 1968, he'll be sticking around at CBS.
The cop drama "The Shield" (10 p.m., FX) has been rough, tough and irresistible all season, but this week it's truly outstanding. Directed by playwright-filmmaker David Mamet, the episode never lets up, including a chilling encounter between Dutch (Jay Karnes) and the serial rapist called The Cuddler. As usual, Michael Chiklis is riveting as Detective Vic Mackey.
