Alumnus to be new Ohio University president

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) -- Roderick McDavis, provost at Virginia Commonwealth University, has been selected as the new president of Ohio University, the chairman of the board of trustees announced.
The board will formally elect McDavis as the university's 20th president next month. He will take over July 1 for Robert Glidden, who announced his retirement in September.
McDavis, 55, graduated from Ohio University in 1970 with a degree in social sciences in secondary education.
He has a master's degree in student personnel administration from the University of Dayton and a doctorate in counselor education and higher education administration from the University of Toledo.
The Dayton native also has been a professor, associate dean and dean at the University of Florida, and a dean at the University of Arkansas.
"It's a very unique and special opportunity to be able to return to my alma mater as president," McDavis said.
McDavis will be the second alumnus to serve as president of Ohio University. The other, William Henry Scott, held the office from 1872 to 1883.
The terms of McDavis' contract are being negotiated and will be finalized next month.
