Twin teenage girls killed in car crash

AKRON (AP) -- A car rear-ended a van, crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a second car, killing two and injuring four others, authorities said.
Bridgette M. Abernathy, 15, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident Saturday night, said Summit County Sheriff's Sgt. Ken Hartshorn. Her twin sister, Brittney, died Sunday afternoon from her injuries, he said. Both were from suburban Coventry Township.
The crash occurred about 9:30 p.m. when a Chevy Camaro rear-ended a Ford van traveling southbound on a road on the southern outskirts of Akron, Sheriff Drew Alexander said in a release. Witnesses told deputies the Camaro went airborne, crossed a median and collided with a Cadillac head-on. Investigators said the Camaro was traveling an estimated 72 mph in a 40 mph zone.
The Camaro's driver, 19-year-old Grant Rudd of Akron, was in stable condition Sunday night at an area hospital, and his passenger, Brian Beaver, 17, of Coventry Township, was in serious condition.
The twins had been riding with Rudd.
The Cadillac's driver, David Ryan, 68, of Cuyahoga Falls was in serious condition Sunday night, and his wife, Carol Ryan, 66, was in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.
