Police charge man again with falsification

AUSTINTOWN -- A Youngstown man has been cited by police after he was accused of lying to officers for the second time since March.
William King, 22, of Milton Avenue, was issued a summons Saturday on charges of falsifying an allegation against a police officer.
King told police last week that Sgt. Tom Collins had acted inappropriately when arresting him in March. The police internal affairs department investigated King's accusations and determined they were false, reports state.
Police reports do not detail the accusations against Collins. King was arrested by Collins and other officers about 4 a.m. March 27 after he drove a car onto a lawn on Woodhurst Boulevard.
At first, King told police he had been forced off the road and onto the lawn by another vehicle. When questioned further by officers, he said he had lied about being forced off the road and that he drove onto the lawn deliberately.
King was charged by police with criminal damaging and falsification. He later pleaded guilty to the charges in Mahoning County Court in Austintown and was fined $200 and ordered to pay restitution for the lawn damage. He also was given a 90-day suspended jail sentence.
