"Colonial House" (8 p.m., PBS), the public-television version of a reality show, challenges volunteers to create a functioning 17th-century colony in Maine. Some of the "colonists," particularly the women, find that their 21st-century outspokenness was verboten in 1628.
Knowledge of pop culture is essential on the new quiz show "On the Cover" (8 p.m., PAX), which offers trivia questions based on celebrities who appear on DVD, CD and popular magazine covers. Contestants compete in three rounds, with the high scorer advancing to the grand-prize round. Mark L. Walberg is the host.
"I Sit Where I Want: The Legacy of Brown v. The Board of Education" (9 p.m., The N) is an hourlong special for teenage viewers that examines the relevance of the 1954 court decision that brought upheaval as it forced the desegregation of America's schools. The documentary tracks students at a magnet school in Buffalo who participated in a program to diversify their lunchroom and their lives. The teenagers were paired biracially and spent time in each other's homes. The N, called Noggin during the day, is on some satellite and digital systems.
"CSI" fans will get a feel for next season's New York-based spinoff series in tonight's episode of "CSI: Miami" (10 p.m., CBS). The story line has Horatio (David Caruso) tracking a murder suspect to the Big Apple, where he meets up with forensics investigators played by Gary Sinise and Melina Kanakaredes, who will headline "CSI: New York" in the fall.
