WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA Great Moraine Auction will benefit preservation



PORTERSVILLE, Pa. -- The Great Moraine Auction will be Saturday at McDanel's Launch on the north shore of Moraine State Park.
The preview beings at 9 a.m. and the auction starts at 10 a.m. The auction includes a large variety of items from local businesses and the general public including sporting and outdoor equipment, gardening supplies, gift baskets, artwork, household supplies, theater and museum tickets, park passes, golfing passes, gift certificates and much, much more. The auctioneer is Ruby McNichol.
All proceeds benefit the Moraine Preservation Fund, a nonprofit group. Donations are tax deductible. For more information or to make a donation, please call Moraine Preservation Fund at (724) 368-9185.
Boat Tours on the Nautical Nature will be available after the auction for $5.25 for adults and $2.50 for children.
About the black fly
At nearby McConnells Mill State Park, a naturalist will be at the Old Mill courtyard from 3 to 4 p.m. today to discuss the black fly's habitat, life cycle and ways that are used to control its population.
The park also will offer half-hour corn-grinding demonstration tours beginning at 1 and 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, as well as 45-minute-long historic gristmill tours starting at 2 and 4 p.m. on the weekends. Both events are at the entrance to the Old Mill.
