WWII prayer breakfast
YOUNGSTOWN -- The World War II Prayer Breakfast Committee of the Veterans Service Commission is having a free breakfast for all WWII veterans from 9 to 11 a.m. May 29 at the Maronite Center, 155 Meridian Road. The breakfast coincides with the dedication of the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. Local veterans service organizations and businesses can buy co-sponsorships at $250 for 16 tickets. The organizations can distribute the tickets themselves, or the breakfast committee will distribute tickets to the veterans and their families.
Individuals or organizations wanting to make a contribution or buy a sponsorship can call John Twohig at the Veterans Service Commission at (330) 740-2451.
PROMOTIONS
Elevated to captain
Air Force Capt. Benjamin E. Hettinga was promoted to his present rank while serving as a flight commander with the 39th Security Forces Squadron, Incirlik Air Base, Adana, Turkey.
He is the son of Norbert and Tamera D. Hettinga of Salem. His wife, Jennifer, is the daughter of David S. and Rhonda Holland of Alexandria, Va. Hettinga graduated in 1996 from Salem High School, received a bachelor's degree in 2000 from the U.S. Air Force Academy and earned his master's degree in 2001 from Ohio State University.
Rank of sergeant
Marine Sgt. Robert A. Rudolph was promoted to his current rank while serving as a KC-130 Engine Mechanic at Cherry Point, N.C. Rudolph, a 1999 graduate of Chaney High School, is a son of Don and Sally Rudolph of Youngstown.
ADVANCED TRAINING
Builders Course completed
Navy Seaman Apprentice David A. Parker, son of Karen M. and Rayford Baskin of Youngstown, has completed the Navy's Builders Course at Naval Construction Training Center, Miss. Parker is a 1996 graduate of East High School.
Dental Technician Course
Navy Dentalman Aaron J. Fair, son of Loriann M. Fair of East Liverpool and Charles A. Fair of New Cumberland, W.Va., recently completed the Basic Dental Technician Course at Naval School of Health Sciences San Diego Detachment, Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. Fair is a 2002 graduate of Oak Glen High School, New Cumberland.
910TH AIRLIFT WING
Arrived for duty
Air Force Reserve Senior Airman Marvin L. Barber Jr. has arrived for duty at Youngstown Air Reserve Station. He is a ground equipment specialist assigned to the 910th Airlift Wing's Maintenance Squadron. He is the son of Carolyn J. Price and Marvin L. Barber Sr., both of Leetonia, and is a 1987 graduate of Leetonia High School.
