Secretary of Labor speaks to NKU grads

CINCINNATI (AP) -- U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao urged Northern Kentucky University graduates Saturday to reach out to others through volunteerism.
"True success isn't just about progressing in your career," Chao told the audience at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati. "It's also about helping others."
Chao reminded the graduates about USA Freedom Corps, a program President Bush started two years ago to encourage Americans to volunteer for two years over their lifetime.
"By volunteering, you will be adding to the millions of acts of kindness and generosity that are strengthening our country, one heart and one soul at a time," Chao said.
Opportunities for new graduates exist in health care, information technology, biotechnology, retail and construction industries, Chao said.
"The beauty of the American economy is that it's constantly evolving," Chao said.
The university, located in Highland Heights, awarded degrees to 850 undergraduates and 200 graduate students. Chao, the wife of U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., received an honorary doctorate in public administration.
