LAWRENCE COUNTY PA CleanWays to have an appliance collection

There is a $20 charge for freon-based appliances.
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- PA CleanWays of Lawrence County will have appliance recycling from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday to give area residents a low-cost opportunity to properly dispose of household appliances.
The event will be in the parking lot of McDuff Corp. on Mahoning Avenue between Moravia and Atlantic Avenues. Residents may bring these materials for disposal: refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, water coolers, dehumidifiers, washers, dryers and ranges.
A $20 charge will be applied to all freon-based appliances, and $5 for appliances without freon.
"PA CleanWays recognizes that these are hard-to- dispose-of items. They frequently end up in illegal dump sites," explained chapter executive director Marjorie Snider. "And we want to provide a safe, easy, economical alternative. Our annual Tire Day has always been a success, and we want to broaden our efforts to provide these types of recycling opportunities to the community."
Other recycling days
Snider also said the chapter has plans for a tire recycling day and an electronics recycling day later this fall.
The Lawrence County chapter of PA CleanWays is a nonprofit organization with a mission to eliminate illegal dumping and littering.
