Director of mentoring group arrested in child rape

NEWARK, Ohio (AP) -- The executive director of the Licking County Big Brothers and Big Sisters has been accused of raping a child several years ago, authorities said Friday.
James T. Russell, 65, of Granville, was being held in the Licking County Justice Center on $500,000 bond after he was arrested Thursday night.
He was charged with raping a child under 13, said Ken Oswalt, chief of the adult felony division for the Licking County prosecutor's office. The charge carries a 10-year sentence if convicted.
Oswalt said the case goes back to 1995 and involves a child who may have been 11 or 12 at the time.
A Licking County grand jury is expected to consider the case next week, he said.
Newark is about 30 miles east of Columbus.
