BASEBALL STANDINGS



The Greater Youngstown Baseball Old-Timers Association hall of fame ceremony will be held May 23 at the K.C. Hall in Struthers. Following are the honorees:
Thomas Eakin
Honored as King of the Realm. He resides in Shaker Heights and has been the president of the Ohio Old-timers Association Hall of Fame. Has been honored by many organizations. He will be the speaker at the Greater Youngstown Old-timers Association on May 23 at the K.C. Hall in Struthers.
Frank L. Philips
A baseball old-timer who was born in Canfield. He attended North High School and graduated from Hubbard High School, playing football, basketball and track. At Fort Knox he played fast pitch with Division Team. He was an All-Steel Valley tight end at Hubbard High School from 1959 to 1960. He founded and managed the Hubbard old-timer's baseball team and also organized the slow pitch league. He umpired and managed in the Little League in Hubbard. He retired from Packard Electric with 30 years of service. He resides in Hubbard. His family consists of daughters Heidi Hiner, Mary Yngrluth, Amy Longwell and sons Peter and John. Frank enjoys all phases of the sports scene.
Morris Fine
He was a great athlete in Boston in 1907. Today is his 95th birthday. He attended South High School and graduated from Rayen. He played tennis and baseball while in high school and later had a great career as a pitcher in an AA League playing with the Reality Trust Bank and Fullerton Transfer teams. He played against such great players as Vick Francis and Joe Testa. He and his family and wife reside in Akron with his daughter, Marlene. Morris follows baseball in all leagues and is an avid tennis fan.
Edward Brannan
He was born in Cleveland on Jan. 20, 1951. He was educated at Cleveland Heights High School and continued his education at Youngstown State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in criminal justice. He played varsity baseball in high school and he played AA and softball in Cleveland. He traveled to Europe and Asia and played baseball with the Legends of Baseball and Foreign Devils of Baseball in foreign countries. He retired from General Motors after 30 years of service. His family of two daughters, Erin and Caite, reside in Austintown.
Paul Gulacy
He was born in Youngstown in 1921 and later moved to Hubbard, where he graduated from high school. He played football and baseball in Suburban League at Hubbard and coached Little League, winning two titles. He played baseball in the Navy in World War II. He tried out with the St. Louis Cardinals and in 1945 had tryouts with the St. Louis Browns. He worked as a driver salesman with the Schwebel Baking Company, retiring after 31 years of service. Paul resides in Poland with wife Virginia, daughter Janet and son Paul. His greatest skill was scoring a hole in one in 1995.
