Use of touch-screen voting machines delayed in Trumbull County
WARREN -- Trumbull County's transition to electronic voting machines has been postponed a second time because of state delays in releasing money for the devices.
County elections officials say they are now planning to introduce new touch-screen machines in all the county's 274 precincts at the November general election, rather than the special election in August.
Board of elections deputy director Rokey Suleman II said the additional time will give board of elections workers more of a chance to demonstrate the new machines to the public.
The county has chosen Diebold Inc., of North Canton, to supply touch-screen voting machines.
County officials had initially planned to use the machines in a few precincts in March. Those plans were scuttled when Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell said he wanted to spend more time examining security concerns raised by the machines.
Special elections will be held in about 130 precincts in August. The deadline to put issues on the ballot is next week.
