SECTIONAL TENNIS Boardman freshman Salcedo wins two matches

CANTON -- Boardman freshman Bryant Salcedo won two singles matches at Thursday's Division I sectional tennis tournament to advance to Saturday's quarterfinals at Weis Park.
Salcedo, who earned the tournament's top seed after winning the Federal League tournament last week, will meet Perry's Jonathan Kendall for a chance to earn a berth in next week's district tournament at Tri-City Park in Rocky River.
The top four singles players and doubles teams advance.
Canfield's Matt Pietro won three matches, including a third round decision over Fitch's Carlos Becerra, to advance to play Jackson's Alex Hosner on Saturday.
Fitch's Chris Frazzini won two matches and will meet Barberton's Joe Starc in a third round match. The winner will play third-seeded Jim Vogelsang of Hoover in a quarterfinal match.
Only one area doubles team advanced to the quarterfinals.
Canfield's Kevin Kuppler and Matt Waigand -- the tournament's third-seeded team -- won two matches on Thursday at Stadium Park. They advanced to play Perry's Luke Kolic and Josh Gressel on Saturday.
Division II singles
BOARDMAN -- Ursuline junior Kelton Person will meet Salem's Nathan Mullen today in a singles match to decide the qualifier for Saturday's semifinals of the Division II sectional tournament.
Mullen won three matches at Boardman High -- the maximum allowed in one day -- to earn his quarterfinal berth.
Brothers Richard and Ryan Baroff of Liberty and Jefferson's Alex Czayka advanced to the semifinals.
Doubles
YOUNGSTOWN -- In doubles competition, Poland's top-seeded team of Luke Duchek and Don Somers, second-seeded Ryan Caruso and Ben Childs of Jefferson and fourth-seeded Dom Rosselli and Chad Ruehs of Poland earned semifinal berths after Thursday's matches at Volney Rogers.
The third seed, Warren JFK's David Ceglia and Anthony Antenucci, were eliminated by Jefferson's Andrew Martin and Jeff Patterson, who reached the semis.
