Maintenance company wins contract

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A. General Maintenance, a company owned by Steve Catale of New Wilmington, was awarded contracts for painting and lawn care by the Lawrence County Housing Authority.
The company had been awarded the contracts last month, but the job was put out for bid again at the suggestion of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Housing Authority Director Robert Evanick said the company had initially been the only bidder and that is why HUD asked the authority to seek more contractors.
A. General Maintenance was again the low bidder.
Two bids were received, but at $19,890 less than the company's first bid. The company will be paid $236,133.22 for painting and $93,330 for lawn care.
The housing authority laid off five workers from maintenance and decided to hire an outside firm as a cost-saving measure.
The authority board also agreed to make Angelo Borelli, now director of maintenance, deputy director of the housing authority. He will receive no extra pay. He will fill in for Evanick when he is out of the office.
