LAWRENCE COUNTY Group: Felasco should be fired

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Lawrence County Township Supervisors Association is adding its name to the list of those asking Gov. Ed Rendell to look into removing Lawrence County treasurer Gary Felasco from office.
Norb Kendall, the immediate past president of the group, said a letter will go out in the next few days. Association members unanimously agreed Wednesday to send it. Letters from the Lawrence County commissioners, the Lawrence County district attorney, a county jury commissioner and a citizens group are also going to Rendell.
Rendell told The Vindicator on Saturday that he would look into a seldom-used statute permitting the governor to start a removal for cause action against an elected official if asked. It would also require a two-thirds vote of the state Senate.
Rendell said Saturday that no one had asked him to look into the matter.
Treasurer Gary Felasco is being investigated by Pennsylvania State Police for failing to pay his property taxes since 2000 and for how his property escaped the yearly tax sale. They are also looking into his use of county cellular telephones.
