NEW SPRINGFIELD -- Springfield Township trustees requested speed-limit studies during their meeting Wednesday.
They asked the Mahoning County engineer's office to study lowering the 55-mile-per-hour speed limit on Rapp Road between Columbiana and Middletown Roads and on State Line road between Calla road and state Route 224. They also asked for a study on lowering the speed limit from 35 to 20 miles per hour on Grant Street between Garfield Road and state Route 165.
Resurfacing
Road Superintendent Richard Kennedy said the Mahoning County engineer's office has announced it will resurface Columbiana Road from Unity Road to state Route 165. He said work will begin in August. He added that although residents are complaining about the condition of South Range and Glacier Roads, the county will repair and patch them but does not plan resurfacing this year.
Fire Chief Brian Hughes reported, in response to a complaint by Joseph and Lucy Caraballo, that he is trying to get a demolition order on the property at 4155 Calla Road. The dilapidated condition of the house violates the covenants and deed restrictions of the Carousel Corners development, the two said.
On Wednesday, trustees also:
UHired Walter McKinney of Petersburg as full-time recycling coordinator to replace Erica Mace, who resigned to take another job. McKinney has been substitute recycling coordinator. He will be paid $8.13 per hour with no benefits.
UAgreed to accept applications for a new substitute recycling coordinator.
ULet a motion to buy a $2,500 copier for the police department die for lack of a second.
UAccepted Eddie Conner and Dan Vest as new members of the fire department. Both are Springfield Township residents.
