PREP BASEBALL Warren Harding falls 2-1 in sectional final



Ashtabula Lakeside scored twice in the fourth inning to win the Division I game.
ASHTABULA -- The Lakeside High baseball team scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning as it edged Warren Harding 2-1 in a Division I sectional championship game Wednesday.
Chad Campbell (6-1) worked a complete game, allowed two hits and struck out seven to pick up the win.
Brendan Palm hit a double, single and scored once for Lakeside (15-4).
Justin Byler scored the only run for the Raiders in the bottom of the fourth.
Losing pitcher Tyson Rowland of Warren Harding allowed five hits and struck out seven.
Regular season
STRUTHERS -- Marc Rossi and Kevin Lee each had three hits and three RBIs to lead Warren Kennedy to a 13-6 win over Ursuline in a Steel Valley Conference game at Cene Park.
Mike Witherow, Steve Orlosky and T.J. Groner each added three hits for the Eagles (10-12), who had 22 hits.
Ed Rohan had a double for Ursuline.
Poland 5, Niles 3
NILES -- After Niles scored twice in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead, Bill Christian hit a two-run single in the top of the fifth for Poland (13-5, 7-2 Metro Athletic Conference).
John Brauer had three singles for Poland.
South Range 10, Lowellville 0
NORTH LIMA -- Ryan Maxwell collected three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored while Greg Rohan added a three-run triple for the Raiders (14-8, 8-1 Inter-County League).
Tom Dechellis, Joe Marino, Dan Justice and Dan McCovey each had two hits in a 15-hit attack.
Ben Detwiller held the Rockets to three singles.
Springfield 2, Western Reserve 1
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Melio Rios drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning for the Tigers (14-9, 8-4) in a game that originally began on April 27.
Western Reserve is 12-10.
McDonald 4, Mineral Ridge 3
MCDONALD -- Corey Vukovic (4-3) got the win in relief and doubled for the Blue Devils (9-9, 7-3 ICL).
McDonald scored four times in the fourth inning to establish a 4-1 lead.
Champion 13, Liberty 6
LIBERTY -- Tom Popadak homered and Alan Stevens doubled for the Golden Flashes (11-9, 10-4 Trumbull Athletic Conference).
Shawn Lininger homered and Aaron Pollack doubled for the Leopards (4-10-1, 2-10-1) who led 5-4 after five innings.
West Branch 9, Northwest 2
CANAL FULTON -- John Wallace homered and singled for the Warriors (12-11, 5-7) Northeastern Buckeye Conference) who led 6-0 after one inning.
Steve Hilliard had three hits, while Justin Grove and Jim King each had two, and Andy Todor doubled.
Mike Shaw had three hits for Northwest (10-15, 5-9).
