Crestview district hires new principal
COLUMBIANA -- Crestview Board of Education appointed Steve Matos, 28, of Salem, as middle school principal. Principal Dan Meta will retire June 30.
Superintendent John Dilling said Matos will begin his duties July 1 with a three-year contract of $60,000 per year.
Matos is assistant principal of Lakeview Intermediate School, a fifth- and sixth-grade building in Stow. He previously taught eighth-grade science at Stow.
He earned his bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree in education administration from Kent State University.
Dilling said 23 people applied for the position.
Matos plans to move into the Crestview district soon. He and his wife, Danielle, have three children.
Dilling also said the district has been awarded a $35,000 technology grant from Hewlett-Packard. The grant primarily will be used to enhance technology throughout the district, particularly at the elementary school, he said.
Dilling said the school board also recognized teachers Mickey Buck and Susan Kershner, who recently received national board certification. Buck is a fourth-grade teacher at Crestview Elementary. Kershner teaches technology classes at Crestview Elementary and is the district's technology coordinator.
